After several years working on restoring the building, The Skye opened in 2005, offering the people of Bennettsville and the surrounding area an upscale facility to host events of all sorts.  We named the building after The Skye Hotel, which occupied the same location, before being destroyed by fire in  1908 after less than half a decade in business.  The main ballroom is called The Dunvegan Room, after the famous castle on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.

In 2006 the second meeting room, The Glendale Room (named for a village near Dunvegan Castle), was completed by Graham's Carpentry and made available for rent for larger events.  The additional space is frequently used for a band, DJ and dance floor.  As well as adding 1,500 square feet of additional floor space, the room has a nook that made the ideal place for a bar.

In 2019, a permanent built-in bar was added to the Glendale Room.  This 13' oak serving station makes receptions and events that include drink services much more functional.
Since opening, The Skye has hosted:
  • The ground breaking reception of the Marian Wright Edleman Public Library of Marlboro County
  • Campaign stops for Presidential candidates Joe Biden and John Edwards
  • A photo shoot for Glamour magazine featuring actress Liv Tyler
  • Since April of 2007, the site of the Rotary Club of Bennettsville's weekly meetings
  • The inaugural Bennettsville Hall of Fame induction ceremony
The Skye was awarded the Rehabilitation Award from the Bennettsville Downtown Development Association in 2005.

In the spring of 2006, the Dan and Elisabeth McNiel, owners of The Skye, received the South Carolina Municipal Association Gaines Jontz Rehabilitation Award.
